Alberto Tomba, born on December 19, 1966, is a retired Italian alpine ski racer who became a dominant force in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He is renowned for his explosive style and charismatic personality, earning the nickname “La Bomba.” Tomba made his World Cup debut in December 1985 and quickly rose to prominence by winning his first World Cup victory in November 1987. He secured gold medals in both slalom and giant slalom at the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, and again in giant slalom at the 1992 Winter Olympics in Albertville. Over his career, Tomba accumulated 50 World Cup victories and three overall World Cup titles in slalom and giant slalom disciplines. His flamboyant style and numerous victories made him a national hero in Italy and a celebrated figure in the world of alpine skiing.
