Gordie Howe, known as “Mr. Hockey,” was a Canadian professional ice hockey player whose career spanned an incredible five decades. He is widely regarded as one of the greatest ice hockey players of all time. Howe played 26 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) primarily with the Detroit Red Wings, where he was known for his strength, skill, and versatility. He could play both as a forward and a defenseman, and was particularly noted for his scoring prowess and physical style of play.
Howe won four Stanley Cups with the Red Wings (1950, 1952, 1954, 1955) and was a six-time recipient of the Hart Trophy as the NHL’s Most Valuable Player. He also won the Art Ross Trophy six times as the league’s top scorer. Howe was selected to 23 NHL All-Star teams and became known for the “Gordie Howe hat trick,” which consists of a goal, an assist, and a fight in the same game. His career NHL statistics include 801 goals and 1,049 assists for 1,850 points, placing him among the all-time leaders in these categories. Howe also played in the World Hockey Association (WHA) alongside his sons, Mark and Marty, before returning to the NHL to finish his career with the Hartford Whalers at the age of 52.
