Wilt Chamberlain, born on August 21, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was an American professional basketball player known for his dominance in the NBA. Standing at 7 feet 1 inch, Chamberlain was a towering figure who set numerous records, many of which still stand today. He played for several teams during his 14-year career, including the Philadelphia/San Francisco Warriors, the Philadelphia 76ers, and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Chamberlain is perhaps best known for scoring 100 points in a single game in 1962, a record that remains unbroken. He also holds the record for the most points scored in a season, with 4,029 points in the 1961-62 season, and the highest career scoring average in a season, at 50.4 points per game. He was a four-time NBA MVP and won two NBA championships, with the 76ers in 1967 and the Lakers in 1972. Additionally, Chamberlain was a 13-time All-Star and a seven-time scoring champion.
Apart from his scoring prowess, Chamberlain was an exceptional rebounder and defender, leading the league in rebounds 11 times. He retired as the NBA’s all-time leading scorer and rebounder, and he remains one of the most dominant figures in the history of basketball. Chamberlain was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1978.
