Overview


Javier Sotomayor is a retired Cuban high jumper and one of the greatest in the history of the sport. He is the current world record holder for the men’s high jump, with a mark of 2.45 meters (8 ft 0.46 in) set in 1993. Sotomayor also holds the world indoor record of 2.43 meters. He won the gold medal at the 1992 Barcelona Olympics and has two World Championship titles to his name. His career was marked by consistent excellence, and he remains the only person to have cleared 2.40 meters multiple times.
