Kapil Dev is a former Indian cricketer and one of the most celebrated all-rounders in the history of the sport. Renowned for his powerful batting, exceptional bowling, and charismatic leadership, he captained the Indian national team to its first-ever Cricket World Cup victory in 1983. As a right-handed batsman and a right-arm fast-medium bowler, Kapil Dev was known for his aggressive playing style and versatility on the field. He holds the distinction of being the first player to score 5,000 runs and take 400 wickets in Test cricket.

Kapil Dev’s career spanned from 1978 to 1994, during which he played 131 Test matches and 225 One Day Internationals (ODIs). He retired as the highest wicket-taker in Test cricket at the time, with 434 wickets, a record that stood until it was surpassed by Courtney Walsh. Kapil was also known for his remarkable innings in the 1983 World Cup against Zimbabwe, where he scored an unbeaten 175 runs to rescue India from a precarious position. Beyond his World Cup success, Kapil Dev contributed significantly to Indian cricket as a player and later as a coach and commentator. He has been honored with numerous awards, including the Padma Bhushan and the Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century award.
